» Real Good, Man: Sporting his Love Don't Let Me Down movie beard, Tim McGraw opened the curtain on his Southern Voice tour last Thursday (2/11) to 15,000 fans in Omaha. According to the Omaha World-Herald, McGraw and his Dancehall Doctors tore through his hits, Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" and new song "Felt Good On My Lips." McGraw also tells the newspaper he's mainly doing weekend shows until his daughters finish their spring semester. "Even days when the kids are in school, I won't leave home until four or five in the afternoon and fly in and do the show and then fly home," McGraw says. "It's a lot of air time." According to KMTV-TV, McGraw also donated $5,000 to the local charity Ted E. Bear Hollow, which helps counsel families with grieving children. » Funky Kicks Goin' Down In The City: CMT is pairing Kenny Chesney with the Steve Miller Band for a March taping of CMT Crossroads that will air later this year. The two artists shared the stage at San Francisco's AT&T Park in 2008. "When Steve called and asked, I was ready to go," Chesney says. "His songs are so much fun and having him onstage with us doing 'Rock'n Me' and 'The Joker' was one of those moments where you can't believe your life." This is Chesney's second time on the series, following an October 2003 episode with John Mellencamp.

» Japan Ease: Hundreds of Japanese fans greeted Taylor Swift early Valentine's Day as she landed in Tokyo for Wednesday's (2/17) Zepp music hall concert. According to Japan Today, Swift tested her language skills at the impromptu Narita International Airport meet-and-greet, saying, "Nippon daisuki! Domo arigato!" ("Japan, I love you. Thank you very much.") And back stateside, Swift's up for two Kids' Choice Awards — Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Song for "You Belong With Me." Speaking of Valentine's Day, the film of the same name and featuring Swift topped the U.S. box office over the weekend with $52.4 million, according to the Associated Press.

» All The Road's A Stage: Walking 40 miles in the wrong direction near the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line set Jimmy Wayne back a couple of days last week. It will take more than a wrong turn onto Highway 70 to deter him, however. Wayne is approximately 500 miles into his 1,600-mile Meet Me Halfway walk to Phoenix for homeless teens. "This is my stage now, out here on the road," Wayne says during his weekly call in from the road. And the story he's writing on the highway is giving him new confidence when he hits an actual stage, as he recently did to benefit Akron, OH's Springtime Of Hope homeless facility. "This walk is showing people who I truly am," he says. "To be able to play songs that people have never heard, like 'Where You're Going' and 'Kerosene Kid' – it's a whole new show." His walk for homeless teens has also rekindled Wayne's relationship with his mother Brenda. "She had a rough life," Wayne says. "When I think about what she's missed out on, it breaks my heart and makes me not want to hold her responsible for all the choices she made, because it's really not her fault. She's the only mom I have; it's easy for me to put it behind me." Follow Wayne to Phoenix and learn more on how to help here.

» Life Note: Members of Trace Adkins' band are recovering from injuries sustained in a fatal crash Saturday (2/13) near Shreveport, LA. Two men were killed when their truck hit Adkins' tour bus. Adkins was not aboard, but several band members suffered minor injuries, the most seriously hurt being bass guitarist Greg Baker, who dislocated a shoulder. "He was in the jump seat up front," Adkins tells the Shreveport Times. "He went through the windshield and was hanging over the front of the bus." Adkins performed a solo acoustic show that night in Bossier City, LA, and the full band was expected to return to action Tuesday (2/16) in San Antonio. Read more here and here.
